Henn na - The Weird Hotel

Have you ever imagined staying at a hotel with robotic staff?

I have come across a post about this hotel today and I was shocked. I could not see how it would function with nearly 100% robotic staff. But apparently this is possible.

Henna na is the first hotel that is staffed by humanoid robots. It currently has 10 of these but in near future it is planned that more than 90% of the services will be operated by non-humans. The hotel is located at Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan and it will open for its guests on 17 July 2015 with 72 rooms available. Henn na is translated to "weird hotel" from Japanese.

At the reception you won't meet tired receptionists but two robots: a Japanese-speaking robot lady and an English-speaking dinosaur with fur and a bow.

Your luggage won't be moved to your room by a man with a cart but by a special robotic porter, which will as well guide you.

Another innovation is a giant robotic arm that play the role of a locker. It is called ""Clock Room" and has a number of boxes. You can place an item in one of the boxes and the robot will put it back until you want to access it again.

Got some burning questions about the hotel? Ask this adorable robot and it will give you detailed answers.

If you are bored while waiting to check in, there is a tiny cute robot to entertain you by printing out photos on the spot.

Have you ever locked yourself out of your hotel room? Or maybe you have lost your key (or maybe both)? Well, at there it is not a problem, as each door has a face recognition system.

Sometimes we fell so lazy that we don't want to get out of the bed to turn the lights off. At Henn na there are no switches. Each room has a robot called Churi-chan which can regulate the lights, tell what the weather is like, set an alarm. Basically it is an embodiment of Siri (that is the only way I am envisaging Siri now).

The rooms are stylish and give the impression of futuristic technologies (which is true).

Behind the stage there are 10 human staff who make sure the robots are functioning correctly.
The price for one night is extremely low (compared to other Japanese hotels) - 73$ for a double room. This is a result of the fact that robots cut corners of staff payment and they are also partly powered by solar energy.
